Genesis 3:1

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’? ”

What makes the serpent crafty was his tactics: instead of trying to get the woman to believe a new train of thought, he got the woman to question what God had said. This is a pattern that repeats itself often when we see Satan in the Scripture. Just like Eve, we can see all of the opportunities in the place where God puts us, but God has given us clear guidelines in his Word. To imagine a world that functions outside of God’s commands is to fall into the same trap that Eve fell into in the garden.  ~ Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org
