Wealth was transfer primarily through inheritance; identity was seen through the lens of families, not individuals. Family was vital their day. So when Jesus told these disciples to have a greater allegiance to Him than their families, it would challenge one of the greatest institutions of the ancient world, yet Jesus makes no apologies.
