Its central theme is salvation through Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Bible<\/span> contains <span style=\"color: #000000;\">66 books<\/span>, written by <span style=\"color: #000000;\">40 authors<\/span>, covering a period of approximately 1600 years.<\/p>\n<p>The Old Testament was written mostly in Hebrew. About 100 year (or more) before the Christian Era the entire Old Testament was translated into the Greek language. Remember, our English Bible is a translation from these original languages.<\/p>\n<p>The word &#8220;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em>Bible<\/em><\/span>&#8221; comes from the Greek word <span style=\"color: #333399;\">biblos<\/span>, meaning &#8220;<span style=\"color: #333399;\">book.<\/span>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The word &#8220;<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>testament<\/em><\/span>&#8221; means &#8220;<span style=\"color: #333399;\">covenant<\/span>,&#8221; or agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Old Testament <\/span>is the covenant God made with people about their salvation before Christ came. The Old Testament Books (39):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8211; <strong>Law<\/strong> (5)<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>Historical <\/strong>(12)<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>Poetical <\/strong>(5)<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>Prophetical <\/strong>(17) [Major (5); Minor (12)]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #333399;\">New Testament<\/span> is the agreement God made with people about their salvation after Christ came.<\/p>\n<p>The New Testament was written to reveal to us the character and teaching of Jesus Christ, te mediator of the New Covenant, by at least eight men, four of whom [<em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Mathew,<\/span><\/em> <em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">John,<\/span><\/em> <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em>Peter<\/em><\/span> and <em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Paul<\/span><\/em>] were apostles; two [<em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Mark <\/span><\/em>and<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em> Luke<\/em><\/span>] were companions of the apostles; and two [<em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">James <\/span><\/em>and <em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Jude<\/span><\/em>] were brothers of Jesus. The books were written at various times during the second half of the first century.<\/p>\n<p>The books (27) in the New Testament may be grouped thus:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8211; <strong>Gospels <\/strong>(4)<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>History <\/strong>(1)<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>Prophecy<\/strong> (1)<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>Epistles <\/strong>(21) [Pauline (13); General (8)]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Old Testament <\/span><em>begins <\/em>with <span style=\"color: #333399;\">God<\/span> (Genesis 1:1)<br \/>\nThe <span style=\"color: #333399;\">N<span style=\"color: #000000;\">ew Testament<\/span><\/span> begins with <span style=\"color: #333399;\">Christ<\/span> (Mathew 1:1)<\/p>\n<p>From Abraham to Christ we have the history of the chosen race.<br \/>\nFrom Christ on we have the history of the church.<\/p>\n<p>In the <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Old Testament<\/span> we find the <span style=\"color: #333399;\">covenant of law<\/span>. In the <span style=\"color: #000000;\">New Testament <\/span>we find the covenant of grace that came through Jesus Christ. One led into the other (Galatians 3:17 &#8211; 25).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The Old commences what the New completes.<br \/>\n&#8211; The Old gathers around Mount Sinai &#8211; the New around Mount Calvary.<br \/>\n-The Old is associated with Moses &#8211; The New with Christ (John 1:17)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">The authors<\/span> were <span style=\"color: #000000;\">kings<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #000000;\">princesses<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #000000;\">poets<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #000000;\">philosophers<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #000000;\">prophets<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #000000;\">statesmen<\/span>. Some were learned in all the arts of the times and others were unschooled fishermen.
